I haven't had a chance to give cake carving a go but I was asked to make an Iggle Piggle so I thought it would be a great opportunity to try it out although I opted for quite a simple shape for my first go. I found it so much fun and pretty messy :-) ITo get the perfect Iggle Piggle shape I found a colouring in drawing on the internet and photo copied it so it was A3 size. I then cut around the Iggle Piggle dawing so I had a template I could lay on top of my cake and carve round it. I made the head separate from the body. I first layered the cake and butter iced it and then put it in the fridge for a couple of hours so it hardened a bit. This helped prevent the cake from falling apart when doing the carving. Once the shape was carved I put another layer of butter icing on the cake and refrigerated again for 30 minutes before covering with sugarpaste.
As well as the Iggle Piggle I decided to make a star cake out of the left over cake as I seemed to cook a little too much. Pleased I did as I think it was a great addition and also a great place to put the candles!
Here is a picture of my Iggle Piggle

Hope you like my Iggle Piggle.
Happy Baking Everyone!
This cake is the best example of an Iggle Piggle cake I've seen (and I've been searching all morning!). Can I ask, are the arms part of the main piece of cake or have you carved them separately?
Hi Tara
The website I found the image to use as a template is as follows:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/in-the-night-garden/makes/in-the-night-garden-christmascard/printouts
Print out the drawing and then when you copy it increase the size so it fits on an A3 piece of paper. Cut it out and carve round the picture.
:-)
