Today I delivered a Minnie Mouse cake to a very cute little 5 year old named Ruby. Her Mum asked me to make her a Minnie Mouse cake and cupcakes and Ruby was very clear on the design she wanted so I was given a picture to follow. I have no idea who made the original design but it was great, a very sophisticated Minnie mouse cake and some matching cupcakes.
Here is my attempt at the design:

I personalised the design so that it wasn't an absolute copy.. I think Ruby seemed happy with the changes as she gave me one of her party sweets to say thank you.. very cute.
The cake was an 8 inch 3 layer vanilla sponge filled with jam and vanilla buttercream. The Minnie Mouse head was made using half of a ball pan. I was too afraid to layer it in case I didn't get a perfect dome shape so it is vanilla sponge with buttercream coating and covered in 2 layers of sugarpaste to get an absolutely perfectly smooth finish.
All the decorations were made with sugarpaste (with a small amount of flower paste to get it to harden a little) and the ears were all flower paste so they became lovely and firm so I could get them to sit properly on top of the cake. I got the circle shape by cutting round the base of one of my 6 inch cake tins..
Here are a few more pictures:

The cupcakes!
I also made 48 cupcakes to go with the main cake and again I had a picture to follow. In the picture they had used a large circle cutter and a smaller circle cutter for the ears. I wanted to get my hands on some Minnie and Mickey mouse cutters which I thought would be pretty straight forward... I thought wrong. I couldnt find them anywhere but eventually sourced some fabulous ones on ebay.
