This weekend I was given a fantastic opportunity to make a cake for a joint 1st birthday party for 6 babies. Names, Elsie, Samuel, Georgios, Fionn and Elizabeth. Once again I was given creative freedom which is so much fun, I do always draw pictures to give clients a good idea of what I am going to do and it also gives the opportunity for them to see different colours together and visualise the final cake. I was inspired by a cake I saw recently on Flickr created by madbaker. I thought the animals were so cute and would great each holding one of the babies names. A couple of the mums specified animals they would like which helped give the cake a personal touch.
The bottom cake was an 8” 4 layer chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream and the top cake was a 6” vanilla sponge filled with jam and vanilla buttercream. I went with a variety of colours so it was bright and fun and suitable for both boys and girls. I was a bit concerned about how the figures were going to attach to the cake but I found royal icing did a fabulous job.
Here are lots of pictures! This is definitely one of my favourite cakes so far.

Happy baking everyone!
